This Friday, December 13, at 7 PM, “Medūza” invites you to the opening of artist Ona Julija Luko Steponaitytė’s solo photography exhibition “Rasa.” The exhibition is organized by the project space “Swallow” and curated by Edgaras Gerasimovičius. The photographs displayed in the “Medūza” spaces will be accompanied by a screening of the 2023 film “Silt” (directed by Ssi Saarinen, Ona Julija Lukas Steponaitytė, and Iida Jonsson), which will take place on December 14 at 6 PM in the Videocapsule space.

According to the artist, in the professional jargon of librarians and archivists, a “dew drop” is a metaphor describing ideal archiving conditions. Just as dew forming on a blade of grass requires a precise balance of temperature, humidity, and pressure, the most fragile documents in archives also require extremely accurate climate control in order to avoid the invisible dew that slowly destroys them.

The photographs presented in Steponaitytė’s exhibition depict the reconstruction process of the storage building of the Wróblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, as well as the installation of contemporary archival equipment and infrastructure. Numerous images, most of them found in the library’s archive, reveal what is created to remain hidden — the material infrastructure of memory, its anonymous history, and the carefully calculated promise to preserve memory for future generations.

Ona Julija Lukas Steponaitytė (born 1992, Vilnius) is an artist working with photography and film. Her works have been presented in international exhibitions, including The Milk of Dreams at the Arsenale of the 59th Venice Biennale (2022); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2022); Liste Art Fair, Basel (2020); RIBOCA2, Riga (2020); Nida Art Colony, Nida (2020); Gak Bremen, Bremen (2022); Kunsthal Extra City, Antwerp (2022); Canal Projects, New York (2023); and Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2023).

The exhibition Rasa will be open to visitors until February 1, 2025. The exhibition is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.





Šį penktadienį, gruodžio 13 d., 19 val., „Medūza“ kviečia į menininkės Onos Julijos Luko Steponaitytės personalinės fotografijų parodos „Rasa“ atidarymą. Parodą organizuoja projektų erdvė „Swallow“, ją kuruoja Edgaras Gerasimovičius. „Medūzos“ erdvėse eksponuojamas nuotraukas lydės ir 2023 m. sukurto filmo „Silt“ (rež. Ssi Saarinen, Ona Julija Lukas Steponaitytė, Iida Jonsson) peržiūra, kuri gruodžio 14 d. 18 val. vyks Videokapsulės erdvėje.

Pasak meninikės, bibliotekininkų ir archyvuotojų profesiniame žargone „rasos lašas“ yra metafora, nusakanti tobulas archyvavimo sąlygas. Kaip ant žolės stiebo besikondensuojančiai rasai reikia tam tikro temperatūros, drėgmės ir slėgio balanso, taip ir trapiausiems dokumentams archyvuose reikia ypač tikslios klimato kontrolės norint išvengti plika akimi neįžiūrimos, juos naikinančios rasos.

Steponaitytės parodoje pristatomos nuotraukos, rodančios Lietuvos Mokslo akademijos Vrublevskių bibliotekos saugyklos pastato perstatymo procesą ir šiuolaikinių archyvavimo prietaisų infrastruktūros diegimą. Daugybė fotografijų, kurių didžioji dalis rastos bibliotekos archyve, atveria tai, kas sukurta būti paslėpta — materialią atminties infrastruktūrą, jos anoniminę istoriją ir tiksliai apskaičiuotą pažadą išsaugoti atmintį ateities kartoms.

Ona Julija Lukas Steponaitytė (g. 1992, Vilnius) yra menininkė, dirbanti su fotografija ir filmais. Parodą „Rasa“ bus galima aplankyti iki 2025 m. vasario 1 dienos. Parodą finansuoja Lietuvos kultūros taryba.
