Birželio 21 d., penktadienį, 18 val. Lietuvos dailininkų sąjungos meno erdvėje „Medūza“ (Šv. Jono g. 11, Vilnius) atidaroma japonės menininkės Mako Ishizuka paroda „How do you want stories to be told?“. Ši daugiasluoksnė paroda - tai tęstinis menininkės projektas, kuriuo ji tyrinėja kultūrinius ir kalbos vertimus bei permąsto žmogiškų savybių ypatybes judant per skirtingas visuomenes bei kontekstus. Parodoje bus pristatomi garso, teksto, skulptūros ir video kūriniai.
Autorė apie parodą:Nuo 2018 m. kuriu projektą, susijusį su kultūriniais ir kalbos vertimais keliaujančių žmonių gyvenime, kuriame bandau užfiksuoti žmogiškąsias savybes, pavyzdžiui, numanomas klaidas, nukrypimus ir emocijas. Projektas keliavo po įvairias visuomenes, kuriose tapau svetimu žmogumi. Tai, kas atsirado paskutinėje stotelėje, toliau vystosi naujame vietiniame kontekste įtraukiant sutiktus žmones ir organizuojant kūrybinius susidūrimus-dirbtuves.Dirbtuves pasitelkiu kaip tyrimo ir kūrybos priemonę ir laikau jas meno kūriniais. Matau ir formuoju dirbtuvių potencialą, kaip alternatyvią ir plastišką socialinės / kolektyvinės meninės patirties formą ir kaip atsaką į dabartinį pasaulį su menkstančiu žmogiškumu. Tai savaime kelia iššūkį, mat nuolat svarstau, kaip perteikti vedamas dirbtuves susvetimėjusiai visuomenei.2022 m. vasarą mano projekto stotele tapo ir Lietuva. Savita lietuviška įgarsinimo kultūra, kai vienas monotoniškas balsas, rodos, aplinkoje sako viską (dialogą, pasakojimą ir tekstą), įkvėpė mane klausti, kaip žmonės nori, kad istorijos būtų pasakojamos.
Apie menininkę: Mako Ishizuka, naudodamasi asmenine patirtimi ir vaizduote, bando įveikti psichologines ir fizines distancijas, atsirandančias ten, kur pasaulis susiduria su kasdienybe.
Mako Ishizuka gimė Kobėje, Japonijoje, studijavo tarpdisciplinines studijas (kultūra/ filosofija/sociologija)Japonijoje, meną Gerrito Rietveldo akademijoje Amsterdame ir Malmės meno akademijoje Švedijoje.Savo darbus ji pristatė Venecijos architektūros bienalėje (2014 m.), EHESS institute Paryžiuje (2017 m.), Šiuolaikinio meno muziejuje Tokijuje (2017 m.), Södertälje Konsthall Stokholme (2018 m.), Kunsthalle Exnergasse Vienoje (2019 m.), tarptautiniame literatūros festivalyje Rygoje (2019 m.), Zimbabvės nacionalinėje galerijoje Hararėje (2023 m.) ir kt.

On the 21st of June, at 6PM, a show "How do you want stories to be told?" by the Japanese artist Mako Ishizuka will open at the Lithuanian Artists' Union's art space "Medūza" (Šv. Jono g. 11, Vilnius). This multi-layered exhibition is the artist's ongoing project to explore cultural and linguistic translations and to rethink the characteristics of human beings as they move through different societies and contexts. The exhibition will include works in sound, text, sculpture and video.
About the show in author's words:Since 2018, I have been engaged in a project around cultural and language translations in the lives of people on the move, where I attempt to scoop up the human qualities shaded in the process, such as assumed errors, deviations and emotions. The project has travelled through different societies where I became a stranger. What emerged at the last location evolves further in the new local context through workshops with the people I encounter.I employed workshops as media for research and production, and consider them as artworks. I examined the potential of a workshop, as an alternative and malleable form for social/collective artistic experience and as a response to the current world with reduced humanity. It posed a challenge - how can I hand on the conducted workshops to the distant/absent public?
In summer 2022, the project landed in Lithuania. Its peculiar culture of voice-over, where a single monotonous voice tells all (dialogue, narration and text), inspired me to question how people want stories to be told.I went back to the previous workshops relevant to the local contexts to generate new works, using their documentation and/or components, to bring another “life” and provide subjective experiences to those who were not involved in the original. A poetic essay on the act of resisting turned into an AI vocal performance with a powerful slide show of global movements (Practising Humanity, 2022); a long lively trilogue for name-giving translated into a quiet swift video (Verbal Acts - Name-Giving Trilogue / Who is Rupert?, 2022); an exchange between two most distant people grew into an intimate installation to relive the third perspective (Duet of Lines, 2023).
About the artist:Mako Ishizuka attempts to intervene in the psychological and physical distances that merge where the global meets the everyday, using her personal experiences and imagination as a springboard.Mako Ishizuka was born in Kobe, Japan, and she studied Interdisciplinary Studies (culture/ philosophy/sociology) in Japan, and free art at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and Malmö Art Academy in Sweden.She has presented her practice at Architecture Biennale in Venice (2014), EHESS (Institute for Higher Studies in Social Sciences) in Paris (2017), Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo (2017), Södertälje Konsthall in Stockholm (2018), Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna (2019), International Literature Festival in Riga (2019), National Gallery of Zimbabwe in
Harare (2023), amongst others.
