The structuring of time could be the peak of trickster’s trickery, which, when climbed, allows us to see the different roots of stories better. This exhibition presents Susanna Wallin’s latest films, in which she shares her own encounters and experiences of time spent in her current place of residence – near the Hillsborough River in Tampa, Florida.

The personal is combined with history and inevitably intertwined with fiction. The artist does not aim to mislead; all the encounters are real, however they are never mere recordings (documentations) as much as suggestions of trajectories of movement and perspectives. An AI voiceover is heard as the river named after Lord floats flowers and leaves (“Will’s Hill”); Lizzy’s belongings become the finds of others as alligators continue to live nearby (“Lizzy”); the wind takes final moments before turning into a hurricane that would seep the Florida coast (“Idalia”), a little girl leaves traces on the film, but water and mold step in to gradually take over the story (“Elva”). The objects on display in the exhibition expand the boundaries of films, creating a space for the past to meet the present. And that is what this exhibition is – an invitation for different encounters, overcoming the limitations of time and distance, we meet as if here, as if by the Hillsborough River, saying farewell to the trickster or maybe waking it up.



Susanna Wallin is a Swedish-born artist and filmmaker based between London and Tampa, Florida. Her work spans moving image, sound, performance and text and engages questions about how time is perceived, lived and acted, attentive to what emerges in hesitation, unpredictably and open ended while directing as well as letting occasions invent their own lure. Her award-winning films have appeared in venues such as MOCA LA, American Cinematheque, The Barbican, The BFI, Whitechapel Gallery and ICA, London.

Laiko struktūravimas galėtų būti triksterio gudrybių viršukalnė, į kurią įkopus geriau matyti skirtingos pasakojimų ištakos. Šioje parodoje pristatomi naujausi Susannos Wallin filmai, kuriuose ji dalinasi savo pačios susitikimais ir laiku praleistu vietoje, kurioje ji šiuo metu gyvena – netoli Hillsborough upės, Tampoje, Floridoje.

Asmeniški pasakojimai kūrėjos darbuose jungiami su istorija, juose visada atsiranda fikcija. Autorė nesiekia klaidinti, visi susitikimai tikri, tačiau jų liudijimai nėra tik fiksavimas, o judėjimo trajektorijų ir perspektyvų pasiūlymas. Lordo vardu pavadintai upei plukdant žiedus ir lapus pasigirsta DI balsas („Vilo Hilas“), Lizės daiktai tampa kitų radiniais, o šalia ir toliau gyvena aligatoriai („Lizė“), kelias akimirkas vėjas dar nešluoja Floridos pakrantės uragano pavidalu („Idalia“), ant kino juostelių pėdsakus palieka ne tik maža mergaitė, bet ir vanduo bei pelėsis, po truputį perimdami pasakojimą („Elva“).  Parodoje eksponuojami objektai tarsi išplečia filmų ribas, sukurdami erdvę praeities susitikimui su dabartimi. Taip ir ši paroda – skirtingų susitikimų galimybė, įveikiant laiko ir nuotolio apribojimus, susitinkame tarsi čia, tarsi prie Hillsborough upės palydėti, o gal pabudinti triksterį.



Susanna Wallin – menininkė ir kino kūrėja, gimusi Švedijoje, gyvenanti Londone ir Tampoje (Florida, JAV). Kūryboje derina judančius vaizdus, garsą, performansą ir tekstą, nagrinėja, kaip suvokiamas, išgyvenamas ir veikiamas laikas, daug dėmesio skiria tam, kas gimsta delsime, neapibrėžtume ir atviruose, nenuspėjamuose procesuose, kai režisūra dera su leidimu pačioms situacijoms kurti savo trauką. Jos apdovanojimus pelnę filmai buvo rodyti tokiose erdvėse kaip MOCA LA, „American Cinematheque“, „Barbican“, BFI, „Whitechapel Gallery“ bei Londono ICA.
